Global Blackswan Innovation programme kicks off for 2016
June 1, 2016
Two weeks ago a group of Masters and Undergraduate Business students seized the opportunity to take part in the Blackswan Innovation Programme, over an intensive 4 days here at Sunderland Business School.
Blackswan are a truly global management consultancy whose impressive client portfolio includes household heavyweights such as Coca-Cola, Google, Rolls Royce and Rio Tinto. They are headquartered in Tynemouth right here in the North East but boast regional offices in London, Australia, China and India. Their key goal is to transform business performance through the improvement of people, process and innovation.
Students took part in an intensive 4 days of activities including lectures, seminars, group activities and presentations with underlying themes of innovation and transformation. Guest speakers included Blackswan CEO Maurice Duffy, John McTernan (political strategist and former director of political operations for Tony Blair) Karen Lee (Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner at Global Blackswan). The programme was facilitated by CEO Maurice Duffy along with members of his team and incorporated real world commercial themes with an academic underpinning.
After the four day course was complete, the winning team was awarded a prize of £100 cash from Blackswan, as well as official certificates recognising their achievements.
Commenting on the programme, John McTernan said: “The impressive buildings and setting of the University of Sunderland match their ambition. High quality standards delivered at home and globally. With a commitment to academic excellence paralleled by a relentless focus on a great student experience”
Karen Lee, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner at Global Blackswan said: “This is the fifth year we have ran the hugely successful EMBA course at the University of Sunderland, and every year we are blown away with the talented students who complete the course.
“It’s always a joy to work with the university and we are already begun preparations for next year’s course.”
Dr. Derek Watson, Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Management, believes the programme gives students a fantastic opportunity to enhance their employability prospects.
“The Global Blackswan programme is testament to our faculty’s commitment to enriched student learning and career employability.”
“The programme exposes students to cutting edge innovative changing mind sets, live case studies and the commercial realities which challenge leaders and global organisations in the 21st century. Blackswan international consultants create an exciting learning dynamic to further bridge the gap between theory and practice.”
“John McTernan’s strategic contribution as a guest speaker emphasises the programmes currency in helping our students realise their potential and career readiness.”
Helen Willis, a BSc (Hons) Events Management student, also praised the programme. She said: “What an incredible opportunity the Blackswan programme is. All week I was enthralled and inspired by the speakers and could feel the energy, passion and change occurring in the room.”
