Cameron Ward on the NHS, Innovation and blackswan
Cameron Ward, now the Director of Commissioning Development at NHS North of England and Partner at NHS IMAS, has come from NHS Barnet where he was a Chief Executive and previously NHS County Durham where he was Chief Operating Officer. Cameron has spent the last 20 years working in the NHS and has worked across all areas of healthcare – acute hospitals, primary care and at Strategic Health Authority level. In this interview Cameron Ward shares his thoughts and beliefs about the current re-direction of the NHS and the direction in which he believes it should be going, those beliefs being founded on use of the NHS to help improvement of people’s health in everyday life through healthier living and advice, to prevent illness and the high costs which are incurred through the reliance on hospitals by fire fighting rather than dealing with the core issues of the problem. Cameron also highlights the importance of using private sector companies such as blackswan working with enthusiastic NHS staff to help build and implement refreshing mindsets and thinking styles across the NHS.
